Eco-Tourism At Its Finest: PUERTO RICO

Puerto Rico: The Environment

Puerto Rico is situated in the Caribbean slightly east of the Dominican Republic. The island offers a variety of terrain such as rainforests, grasslands, pristine beaches, and mountains.

Puerto Rico experiences rain during the entire year, which means you will find the island to be lush, and full of small lakes and rivers. The weather can only be described as comfortable, with average highs of 82F.

From an historic and cultural aspect, Old San Juan is a fantastic place to visit. The area has been nicely restored and has a tranquil, historic charm to it.

Only an hour from San Juan is a rainforest area known as El Yunque. The park claims to have over 28,000 acres of rainforest in it. Hike through the many trails and enjoy the beauty of the rainforest. Throughout the rainforest you will see various types of trees, fern, orchids, rare species of birds, and many other types of interesting plants and animals. El Yunque is a place you should definately visit when in Puerto Rico.
