San Juan, Puerto
Rico: A Number Of Great Beaches
Puerto Rico is famous not only for the number
of beaches it has, but for the quality and variety of beaches.
Puerto Rico has almost 300 miles of beautiful, sun washed
shoreline, with literally hundreds of different beaches. You
can find some with exceedingly calm waters, while others are
popular with surfers. Some will attract the young, while others
are peaceful and relaxing. Certain beaches are full of homes
and hotels, while others are virtually pristine with no development.
Puerto Rico definately has a beach for you. Below are some
of the more popular ones.
San Juan
A popular destination is Isla Verde. This
beach is made up of long stretches of white sand. The area
is great for snorkeling and people watching. Refreshments
are plentiful, and just off the beach you can find plenty
of hotels, restaurants, shops, etc.
Just a few miles east of Isla Verde you will
hit Carolina Baneario. Typically it is wide open in terms
of parking and not being too crowded. If the surf is not heavy
the swimming will be great. To the east you will find the
ever popular Pinones. The beach is pretty mellow and you can
sample some of the local food in the area as well.
Heading west from Isla Verde is probably
one of the prettiest beaches in San Juan called Ocean Park.
This is the hot spot for the young and the restless. The area
is great for windsurfing, kitsurfing and and variety of beach
sports and activities.
If you are looking for a kid friendly place
you may want to check out Condado Public Beach. The waters
typically are very calm. You will find shaded areas, rental
chairs and a lifeguard on most days.
West of San Juan
If you leave San Juan and head towards the
west you will find the area known as the Rincon. The beaches
are great and the surfing is even better. To say that the
region is popular with surfers would be a serious understatement.
There are a few beaches where you can go swimming and those
would be Rincon Balneario and Corcega Beach.
East of San Juan
Heading east out of San Juan you have the
chance to see Puerto Rico's best known beach, Luquillo Beach.
The beach area is well known for stunningly beautiful palm
tree lined shores and calm and shallow waters. The beach is
well maintained and there are plenty of services of all types
in the area.
You can also travel out to Culebra Island
and check out Playa Flamenco. Tree lined, nice sand and crystal
clear calm waters.
